Dirty Floors Got You Down? You Can Blame the Groundhog

February 26th, 2015 / Lisa Noonan / 0 comments

groundhog-day2Ah, February: the shortest, and yet seemingly the longest, month of the year. Snow, cold, darkness, ice, stressful commutes and that omniscient groundhog telling us that it’s only just begun.
This is the time of year when, no matter how hard we try, what lies beneath our feet tends to look positively yucky. Snow, sand, salt and various ice-melting chemicals (followed by yet more snow) are dragged into our vehicles, our homes and our workplaces on a daily basis. Floor finishes look dull and lifeless and carpeting appears matted and dingy. Every time we look down and see a dirty floor, we tend to extend that view beyond the floors and we question the cleanliness of our entire surroundings.

For those in the commercial cleaning business, this is a tough time of year. It is especially important to spend as much time as possible on floor care, which means more frequent vacuuming, carpet cleaning, floor cleaning and floor refinishing. It’s also an optimum time to establish a floor care program with clients for the coming months.
Eagle Cleaning recommends that carpeted areas be extracted and cleaned 3 to 4 times per year, depending on traffic patterns, and that tile flooring be stripped and waxed about as often. Having a floor care program in place ahead of time ensures that flooring will be in optimum condition and be properly prepared to withstand the elements of even the harshest New England winter. And maybe, just maybe, one day that groundhog will be wrong.

Germaphobe or Germophile – Perhaps We’re All a Little of Both?

November 20th, 2014 / Lisa Noonan / 0 comments

Yes – it’s that time of year again.  Cold and flu season is officially upon us.  Have you ever noticed how many people, especially women, have certain “hot buttons” when it comes to germs?  Some people refuse to shake hands, but think nothing of dropping their purse or backpack on the kitchen counter when they walk in the house.   Some may apply hand sanitizer “ad nauseam” throughout the course of a day at the office, but never even think to give their beloved cell phone a wipe down every so often.

When it comes to the spread of germs, it seems that many of us may talk the talk, but walking the walk is much more difficult – and germs may be almost impossible to really control.    This is especially true in a workplace environment.  What’s more, all we can really control is our own microcosm of germs.  Think about all the people we come in contact with each day.  We have no idea what they’ve done to eliminate and kill germs.  And with all the doorknobs, toilet handles, car keys and electronic devices that we touch each day — doesn’t the cycle begin all over again each time we touch a foreign object?

But… before you throw your dirty, germy hands up and say “why bother?” statistics still show that hand washing is king when it comes to killing and preventing germs (see link).  This is not to say that we shouldn’t all continue our own individual germ-preventive measures,  but maybe doing just one thing really well is the secret.

How Clean is Your Student’s Dorm Room?

August 15th, 2014 / Lisa Noonan / 0 comments

It’s that time of year again when parents send their teenagers back to college with mixed emotions.  Summer always ends much too quickly – especially in New England.  But the inevitability of back-to-school is upon us.

As parents write those hefty tuition checks each semester, it’s doubtful that much thought is given to the cleanliness of the dorm rooms that students inhabit for nine months out of the year.   At Eagle Cleaning Corporation, however, it’s all we think about.  We are in the business of providing commercial cleaning services to such institutions of higher learning in the greater Worcester MA area.  So, trust us when we tell you that it is no small feat making those rooms sparkle and shine.

From carpet restoration to floor stripping and refinishing to restroom sanitation to overall detailed cleaning of all the nooks and crannies in each dorm room – we do it all!  And we do it so you don’t have to give it a thought.  But it wouldn’t hurt to ask your college student to do their part to help us out – maybe just a little – throughout the semester.  After all, scraping decayed pizza off of a ceiling isn’t fun for anyone.
